Hiding Student Grades

The following directions are for when you want to enter student grades periodically without letting the first group of students see their grades before other students (ex. entering speech or test grades while other students have yet to give the speech/take the test). To hide grade items/grades from students:

(1)Click on "Manage Grades"

(2)Click on the grade item you want to hide

(3)Click on the "Restrictions" tab

(4)Click “Hide this grade item”

Note: This will hide the entire grade item, not just the grade.

Adding non-UWM users to a D2L course site

If the individuals already have usernames in D2L, the instructor can enroll them from the Classlist.

Here's how for just a few.  Here's how for more than a few.

If the individuals are *not* already in the D2L database, please send the following to the UWM Learning Technology Center email address (LTC at uwm.edu) and allow 24-48 hours for processing:
  • the reason for the request
  • the role the individuals will have in the course site
  • a spreadsheet (saved as CSV (Comma delimited) for PC or Windows Comma Separated (.csv) for MAC) with one row per user to be added to the D2L system, in the following columns
    • COLUMN 1: CREATE (the word create)
    • COLUMN 2: USERNAME (the person's firstname.lastname)
    • COLUMN 3: FIRSTname
    • COLUMN 4: LASTname
    • COLUMN 5: EMAILaddress
    • COLUMN 6: GUEST (the word guest)

It will take 24-48 hours for processing, and then the instructor will be able to add them to the D2L course from the Classlist, as described above.

IMPORTANT: We recommend caution when enrolling outside users into UWM for-credit courses.  To avoid exposing students' FERPA-protected information, please consider using the "Guest Instructor" role, which will allow access to the Discussion forums, but will not allow the guest to view student work or grades.

Creating a Checklist

Once you've added Checklist to your navigation bar, you can start creating checklists for your students.   Here are instructions on how this can be done:

  1. Click on Checklist within your D2L course site.
  2. Click New.
  3. Give the checklist a Name and click on Save
  4. Once the checklist is saved, you can create new categories and items from the page you are now directed to.  You can create as many items and categories as you would like using the Edit Options (New Category, New Item, Reorder) available.  There is also a Preview option, which shows you what a checklist looks like from a student perspective.

NOTE: You cannot view a student's checklist from the Checklist icon.  Here are instructions on how to view a student checklist.
