D2L Login: clearing cache

UWM students, instructors, and staff using ePanther accounts should go to the D2L landing page at http://D2L.uwm.edu and choose the [UWM ePanther] login path.

If you reach the D2L Special Access Account Login page instead, you must close that page, and then clear your browser's cache (directions are available at: https://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=12384).

If you are a student, you will want to contact the UWM Help Desk at 414-229-4040 or go to GetTechHelp.uwm.edu if you have any further difficulties accessing D2L.

Student D2L Login History

There are a couple of ways to check the D2L login history of your students. One way is through the "View User Progress" option.
  • Go to Edit Course
  • Select View User Progress (bottom of the page)
  • In the Progress Section, select a user (i.e., student) and a Tool (e.g., System Login History)
  • The Login Summary area will tell you when your course site was last accessed by the selected student
  • The Login Details area will tell you when that student last logged into D2L (not necessarily your course site)
If you are only interested in the Last Access day/time, you can also view this in the Classlist.

"Special characters" spell TROUBLE

Many problems in D2L begin with a simple, innocent mistake: using special characters.

"What," you may ask, "*are* they? Where will they cause trouble, and how can I avoid becoming involved with these unsavory characters?"

As a rule, D2L has no trouble with English letters and standard number characters (A-Z, a-z, 0-9). Dashes and underscores have not been known to cause issues.

Beyond that -- watch out!

Both students and instructors should avoid the use of special characters, especially in file names. Instructors would also be well advised to inform their students of the best practices for submitting files to a dropbox and other areas in D2L.

Special characters have been found to be the cause of problems with:

- Content
- Dropbox
- Discussions
- Locker
- Searches

Here is a list of "special character" issues from the University of Wisconsin System D2L Knowledgebase. Click on any link for more detail.
