Creating a Checklist

Once you've added Checklist to your navigation bar, you can start creating checklists for your students.   Here are instructions on how this can be done:

  1. Click on Checklist within your D2L course site.
  2. Click New.
  3. Give the checklist a Name and click on Save
  4. Once the checklist is saved, you can create new categories and items from the page you are now directed to.  You can create as many items and categories as you would like using the Edit Options (New Category, New Item, Reorder) available.  There is also a Preview option, which shows you what a checklist looks like from a student perspective.

NOTE: You cannot view a student's checklist from the Checklist icon.  Here are instructions on how to view a student checklist.

How to view a student checklist

The "Checklist" is a tool that allows the instructor to create a checklist for students in order to keep track of the items they have completed in the course.  Checklists can be created for other purposes as well.   The instructor is NOT able to view a student's checklist under the Checklist tool. it can only be viewed in the "User Progress" for each student, individually.  Below are instructions on how to do this.

  • Go to Classlist
  • Select the "view progress" icon
  • Next to Tool, select Change if the displayed tool is NOT Checklist

  •  Using the drop-down menu, select Checklist and click Apply

  • You will now see the User Details for the Checklist.  The image below shows an example of the information that can be found here.

  1. The Checklist Summary for the selected user, which includes items completed, not completed, overdue (only applicable if there is a due date assigned), and the total items.
  2. The Status shows whether or not the student has completed that item. A green check markindicates the item has been checked off by the student.
  3. The Class Status represents how many students in the class have checked off that item.
  4. Due Date refers to the date the assignment is due.  This date is entered when the instructor creates the checklist.
  5. Checked Date indicates that the student checked this item.
